DARWIN DAY 2008: GREAT TRANSFORMATIONS

An evening of film, discussion and fun, in celebration of Charles Darwin’s “dangerous idea” at Wilfrid Laurier University. All ages audience. Topics discussed: what underlies the amazing diversity of life on Earth? How did complex life forms evolve?

Two dates: Friday’s event was at the University of Guelph and Saturday’s event was at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. Our guest speaker was Eric McMillan, professor of journalism at the University of Toronto and Chair of Skeptics Canada. Eric discussed popular “alternative healing” methods, and enlightened the audience as to which methods do not work and which ones are dangerous. He also wowed the audience with several attempts at “homeopathic suicide”.
FIELD TRIP TO THE ROYAL ONTARIO MUSEUM

Our very first SOFREE field trip was a success! After a tour of the controversial ROM exhibit in downtown Toronto, Darwin: the Evolution Revolution, we got together for a delicious fellowship dinner at the Rainforest Café in Toronto. The atmosphere was perfect – with periodic torrential rain sounds, animals moving, and Humanist conversation! SOFREE members from all over southern Ontario attended.
