Christopher diCarlo: Humanist of the Year
In addition to being voted Ontario’s top professor for 2008, Dr diCarlo was recognized as HUMANIST OF THE YEAR for his outstanding contributions and personal sacrifices in promoting humanism and critical thinking in Canada.
About Christopher diCarlo
2008 | Assistant Professor, Health Sciences and Criminology, UOIT (Univ of Ontario Institute of Technology) | Dr. diCarlo received his Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Waterloo in 1998. While teaching at the University of Guelph he was awarded the College of Arts Teaching Excellence Award (2001-2002). He was later cross-appointed in the Faculties of Health Sciences and Criminology at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology.
Past Research Scholar at Harvard University and the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology, he has spoken at national and international conferences and has written scholarly papers ranging from bioethics to cognitive evolution. His new book, How to Become a Really Good Pain in the Ass: A Practical Guide to Thinking Critically, was published by Prometheus Books.
A passionate activist for freethought, humanism, and secularism, Dr diCarlo is a lifetime member of the Society of Ontario Freethinkers, advisor to Freethought TV, annual presenter at Camp Quest Ontario, and has given many enlightening talks at humanist events all over the world.
His lecture tour "We Are All African" has been presented across North America and has helped raised awareness of evolutionary theory and funding for the Masai for Africa, an HIV awareness program in Lesotho, Africa.
