Society of Ontario Freethinkers
Founded in 1992, the Society of Ontario Freethinkers (SOFREE) is a dynamic volunteer-run humanist fellowship that promotes reason, ethics, dignity and equality. We provide a lively social network for humanists all over Ontario, an annual humanist summer camp for children, a video production service that that produces material on humanism, critical-thinking, social justice, and secularism, and a freethought book club. We also support the humanist magazine Canadian Freethinker, and collaborate with humanism-focused organizations to host events and fundraise for important causes. SOFREE is a registered Canadian non-profit charitable organization.
Camp Quest Ontario
Our first major initiative was starting a much-needed summer camp for young freethinkers: Camp Quest Ontario. Our first camp, launched in 2004, was in Lake of Bays, Ontario. Since then we have held Camp Quest Ontario in Kitchener, Waterloo, Niagara Falls, and Toronto. The camp is for children and youth aged 7-17.
Freethought TV
Our next initiative was launching Canada's first humanist video service for freethinkers: Freethought TV. This premiere service produces and broadcasts programs promoting freethought, social justice, critical thinking, humanism, and secularism. Our services include event videography, DVD production, and web-streaming. Our volunteer team of acclaimed producers and directors use broadcast-quality equipment for professional results. Canadian Freethinker magazine
Following the success of Camp Quest Ontario and Freethought TV, the Society of Ontario Freethinkers started a collaboration with Keltoi Publishing in 2009, to produce a unique humanist magazine: Canadian Freethinker. Canadian Freethinker is a volunteer-driven, quarterly magazine that promotes freethought, secularism, and humanist culture. We discuss issues affecting our civil and human rights, promote events and projects for the humanist community, and advance the efforts of freethought campus groups. Submissions are welcome from everyone at submissions@CanadianFreethinker.com
